Jun 17, 2016Hi,
Thanks for this info. I will put it in my notes for Gertrude , which are not viewable by the general public. Gertrude's family are my cousins (1 or more times removed) as ,generally speaking, are all the Linthicums that were found in Monroe and Lawrence Co. My line comes from William A Linthicum who settled in nearby Crawford County after the Civil War until his death in 1872. Thomas S. Linthicum who is buried in the Linthicum Cemetery in Monroe Co. and is the progenitor of most of the Linthicums still found in that area was an uncle to William A. William A. followed the family tradition of being a self-styled preacher and died a pauper from TB. He was orphaned at an early age and probably never knew he had family so close by.

I have followed almost every Linthicum I can find in the area as there is little hard info and your keep hoping to find that cousin with just an extra nugget of information since they all trace back to the same ancestor (Richard Linthicum (1746 MD - 1819 NC) who migrated from MD to NC just around the end of the Revolutionary War.

Thanks again for being in touch.

Jun 16, 2016Hello. I don't know if you remember my message from last month, concerning the Roubadeaux/Linthicum family, but this was what you had answered me at the time:

"...I thought my connection was with Gertrude Linthicum but marriage records show your Linus married a Gertrude Morrison with different birth date and parents. However, Gertrude Robadeaux is seemingly with her parents, the Linthicums and says she is divorced. A real puzzle."

I have a few answers for you. Gertrude Linthicum was pregnant at the time she married Linus. She used a fake name. Linus did not know. I have no idea exactly why, but I have a feeling she must have been terrified. She told Linus the baby was his, but that was false also. How it came out, I'm not sure, but when she finally told him the truth, he filed for divorce the next day. Linus was just 18, Gertrude was around 17. I imagine they both must have been scared to death.

So, in that respect, if you are from Gertrude's line, you are indeed a Linthicum. I'm sorry to say, I couldn't find the name of Betty's (?) birth father.

As for Robert Ray, I don't believe his father was Linus, even though Gertrude was still using his last name at the time. I know Linus had a part of his will state that he was not father to either of Gertrude's children.

That's all the information I have at this moment. If I find out more, I will let you know.
